artisan clay society

Founding Collection : Artisan Mug Society

A limited quarterly pottery collection for those who value slow craft, thoughtful design, and mugs meant to be lived with.

This is not a subscription box.

It’s a collector society.

Four times a year, members receive a handmade mug created exclusively for the Artisan Mug Society, paired with a coordinating pottery piece and a glimpse into the season that shaped it.

Made slowly. Released intentionally. Available only to members.

What You’ll Receive Each Quarter

Each shipment includes:

  • One handcrafted mug

    • Made start to finish by me

    • Finished in a seasonal, subscriber-only glaze

    • Not released in my online shop

  • One additional pottery piece

    • Examples include a spoon rest, trinket dish, small bowl, or tabletop object

    • Designed to complement the mug and glaze story

  • A printed story card

    • The inspiration behind the season

    • Notes from the studio

    • Hand signed

No filler. No mass production. Just thoughtfully made pottery meant to be used every day.

Shipping Schedule

The Artisan Mug Society ships quarterly, during the second week of the final month of each quarter:

  • March

  • June

  • September

  • December

This rhythm allows the work to be made without rush, honoring the pace of the process and the season.

Membership Details

  • Limited to 25 founding members

  • Ships to Canada and the USA only

  • $135 CAD + tax per quarter - includes shipping

  • Charged quarterly

  • Cancel anytime before the next billing cycle

Once the founding membership is full, enrollment will close.

Please note: all Artisan Mug Society pieces are made to order and are final sale.

Made to Order & Final Sale

All pieces within the Artisan Mug Society are made to order specifically for members.

Because each mug and accompanying piece is created exclusively for this collection and produced in limited quantities, all sales are final.
This includes cancellations, refunds, or exchanges once a quarterly billing cycle has been processed.

Minor variations in glaze, form, and finish are a natural part of the handmade process and are celebrated as part of what makes each piece unique.

Why a Society Model

This collection exists to support slower making and deeper connection.

By joining the Artisan Mug Society, you are:

  • Supporting small-batch, independent pottery

  • Allowing work to be created intentionally, not reactively

  • Becoming part of a seasonal rhythm rather than a one-time purchase

This model keeps the work personal, the quantities manageable, and the quality uncompromised.

Founding Member Details

As a founding member, you’ll receive:

  • Priority access to the Artisan Mug Society

  • First access to future collections within the Artisan Clay Society

The founding edition will never be repeated.

Design Reveal & Seasonal Surprise

To preserve the integrity of the collection and the element of discovery, designs are not revealed in advance.

Each quarter’s mug and companion piece will be announced only after all boxes have shipped. Members receive the work first, without previews, mockups, or early reveals.

This allows each season to unfold naturally and ensures every member experiences the collection as it was intended - thoughtfully, personally, and without comparison.

Is This Right for You?

This collection is for you if:

  • You value handmade objects with visible touch and variation

  • You appreciate seasonal color stories and glaze exploration

  • You enjoy collecting pottery meant for daily rituals

It may not be for you if:

  • You prefer identical, mass-produced ceramics

  • You are looking for monthly shipments or surprise novelty items

  • You prefer heavily discounted pricing over craftsmanship

FAQ

About the Maker

Van Isle Clayworks is a small-batch pottery studio, run by Pille, focused on functional forms, layered glazes, and pieces meant to be used and enjoyed.

Every piece of pottery is thrown, trimmed, glazed by hand and fired twice in my studio. Subtle variations are part of the process and the beauty of handmade work.
